Repipe & Pipe Material Consulting

Repipe once, with the right pipe, at the right price.

Quick answerA repipe consultant determines whether a whole-house repipe is actually necessary, recommends the right material (usually PEX-A or Type L copper) and routing (attic vs. walls), and checks contractor bids for scope and price. In Central Texas a whole-home PEX repipe commonly runs $5,500–$15,000, so an independent opinion first is cheap insurance.
Remote review in 48 hours; on-site in 2–5 days $395–$950 per repipe evaluation Independent · no installs

Repipe quotes arrive at the worst moment: right after a leak. Sometimes a repipe is the only sensible answer, especially with polybutylene or failing galvanized pipe. Sometimes a section repair and a pressure-reducing valve will buy a decade. The difference is often five figures.

We look at what you actually have, why it's failing, and how long the rest will last. If a repipe makes sense, we help you choose material and routing that suit your home (attic runs are common in Texas slab homes) and make sure the bid includes drywall repair, permits, pressure testing and the fittings you think you're getting.

When to call us

  • Your home has polybutylene (gray plastic) or galvanized steel supply lines
  • You've had two or more pinhole or fitting leaks in a year
  • You were quoted a repipe after a single leak
  • Repipe bids vary widely in price or material
  • You're unsure whether to choose PEX or copper

What we do

  • Identification of existing pipe, failure mode and remaining life
  • Repair vs. partial vs. whole-house repipe recommendation
  • Material comparison (PEX-A, PEX-B, copper) for your water and home
  • Routing review: attic, walls, and freeze exposure
  • Bid scope and price check, including patch and permit items

What you get

Repipe necessity verdict in writing
Recommended material and routing
Bid comparison with missing-item checklist
Pressure-test and final inspection checklist

What drives the fee

  • Remote vs. on-site evaluation
  • Number of bids to level
  • Home size and access (attic, crawlspace)
  • Follow-up inspection after the repipe

Repipe Consulting FAQ

Is PEX or copper better for a Texas repipe?

Both can last decades. PEX-A is the most common choice in Central Texas: freeze-tolerant, fewer fittings and lower cost. Copper Type L is durable and familiar but costs more and can pinhole in some water conditions. The right answer depends on your water, routing and budget. See our pipe materials comparison tool for the trade-offs.

How long does a whole-house repipe take?

Most single-family repipes take 2–5 working days of plumbing, plus drywall patching. Water is usually restored each evening.

Does homeowners insurance cover a repipe?

Policies usually cover sudden water damage but not the cost of replacing old pipe. Polybutylene can also affect insurability. We can document the pipe condition for your insurer or buyer.
